Prof. Dr. Sascha Spoun
President, Leuphana University of Lüneburg
Sascha Spoun has been the President of Leuphana University of Lüneburg since 2006. Under his guidance, the university underwent a fundamental reorientation, driven by democratic process. It has distinguished itself in the field of sustainabilty research and established an innovative educational concept, which won repeated acclaims. As president, he has made it his personal concern that the university should provide the necessary space for of self-directed education and research.
In earlier years, Sascha Spoun has guided the innovative reform project “Redesigning Teaching" at the University of St. Gallen (HSG), whicht implemented the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in a proactive and sustainable manner.
He studied Economics and Politics at the University of St. Gallen, Ann Arbour Business School University of Michigan, the École des Hautes Études Commerciales, and the Institut des Études Politiques in Paris. He obtained a Ph.D. in Economics at the University of St. Gallen, where he has been teaching as a Visiting Professor for many years. His latest publications are concerned with the evolution of higher education.
He is member of the Board of Trustees of the Haniel Foundation, Duisburg and member of the Supervisory Board of the Hertie School of Governance, Berlin.
